Emancipator is a down-tempo trip-hop style electronic duo consisting of producer, Douglas Appling, and his accompanying violinist, Ilya Goldberg. The smooth building beats allow your mind, body and soul to drift away and escape into the clouds. Their music will put you in a transient state of mind, almost meditative. While their stage presence isn’t the most exciting you will thoroughly enjoy an entire show with your eyes closed. The light production is unique as they project visualizers and video samples onto multiple triangles, a minimalist mountain range of sorts. The music is great to listen to whether you are chillin’ in the lava lounge, studying or driving down a deserted road on a dreary winter afternoon.

Emancipator performing Smoke Signals segueing into Wolf Drawn Fugees Ready or Not Remix. This was a great counter balance of chill trip hop into a bouncy hip hop sample over an original Emancipator track.
Emancipator kicked off what has been a great year of live music in Madison, WI. They played at the Majestic Theater on January 18th, 2013. They were as chill as ever but still kept the crowd bouncing and swaying all night. more pictures and video to come soon
